Example Class 165 Modernization project: Understand requirements even the specification is open
For Great Western Railway (GWR), a Train Operating Company in England, we replaced the old obsolete converters of the Class 165 DMUs with units from PowerTech to allow GWR to operate their rolling stocks for another 20 years.
The requirements were quite simple: offer a solution that allowed to maintain Form, Fit and Function, that was highly reliable, that fulfilled rail standards and that was easy to integrate.
PowerTech modernization team was able to set up a project framework with checklist driven workflows to execute the project even with limited train documentation and specification.
Example Retrofit battery chargers for ICE-T Trains: Pimp the charging and protect the batteries
For the ICE-T Trains, we developed and produced battery charger with Form, Fit and Function maintained and with improved battery charging and power components. Through customer feedback of service operation, we found the best way to modify the existing battery chargers ultimately resulting in increased battery lifetime and reduced maintenance effort.
A key aspect of the project was to define together with the customer a project team and communication matrix to allow us to liaise and interact quickly and efficiently with the customer delegates so as to solve technical issues, provide clarifications and ensure the timely execution of the project.
